Everyone loves subway tile - it’s a great neutral base for a kitchen backsplash or bathroom shower, but it can be so overused! We are all about having your main items - the items that can’t so easily be changed - be neutral, but there is a point where too much is too much. There are so many other options out there that can play the same part without getting too crazy.
You can completely change the pattern altogether with a good herringbone or hexagon design, or you can dress up your subway tile with borders, different edging and even different material. Regardless of pattern, the color plays a huge role in how much of a statement your tile makes. Yes, there are certainly more busy patterns, like penny rounds, but those can still replace the traditional subway tile when you use neutral colors like white or greige for example. Take a look at some of the alternative tiles we have used!
